Initial teacher training (ITT)

Initial teacher training is one of the main issues of any educational system as teachers’ skills before the beginning of their career are a necessary precondition for the quality of teaching.

ITT is a period of education undertaken by student teachers in order to qualify as teachers. In most European countries (and in Italy for primary education) the training courses, usually university-based, are quite different, but they are all characterized by the study of the school subjects as well as of pedagogy, psychology, social sciences and didactics.

In the section of Initial Teacher Training the debate on the various teacher training models (pre-service, internship, mentoring, induction, early career, etc.) is open and there are documents and materials on this topic.
